Outdoor Class

How much electricity have you used? Well a class from Alice Springs set themselves a challenge to spend a whole week outdoors with no electricity to use. The challenge was to see how much electricity the classroom has used. Like all classrooms we use electricity every day.The class took a vote to decide if they want to stay outside for a week. So they did.  So the class decided to not use electricity for a week  for the Enviro Week challenge this year they decided to find a fun way to make sure  the amount of energy they use is less.  That means no computers, no Ipads and no interactive whiteboards. On the last day in their classroom they moved all the tables and chairs into a nice spot where they decided to stay. They couldn’t use computers so they wrote everything by HAND!! Once the week was over they went back to the classroom and that taught them how much energy they really use.

10 eyewitness news

Welcome to 10 eyewitness news, today’s top story starts with a wedding in Cana. Here’s Amelia with the full story.

Hello today I’m at Cana in Galilee at a wedding with Jesus and his mum Mary.

Amelia – Guess what just happened, they’ve just ran out of wine! Jesus how do you feel?

Mary- Well wev’e just ran out of wine but I am going to ask Jesus what to do.

What’s Jesus doing?

Amelia – A MIRACLE just happened! Jesus what’s going on? The water changed to wine, how did it happen?

Jesus – When we were eating we ran out of wine, my mother told me but I just said ‘My time has not come.’ Then I told my servents to put water in the 6 bottles and fill it to the brim. Then take them some out and give it to the master of the feast.

How did you feel?

Guest – I’m just shocked.

Servent – Jesus said the time will come and it did.

Other Guest – I don’t know what just happened but I want to know what egzactly happened.

Guest-  I don’t know what to think.

How did the mracle happen?

My mother told me to fix it but it wasn’t the right time to do it, so when the time was right God told me to make a mirecal so I did.

Now thats the end of 10 eyewitness news.

Flag Day

Today I’m going to talk about National Flag Day. Here’s what I found out.

On the 3rd of September 1901 the Australian flag was raised for the first time. It’s now remembered as ‘Flag Day’. We wear it, fly it, and parade it both here and overseas. In 1901 when Australia became a federation Prime Minister Sir Edmund Barton announced a compotition to design a brand new flag for a new nation. There were almost 33 thousand enteries but the one we have today is the won that won. It was officially seen to the people on September third and now that day is known as National Flag Day! Special events are held all over Australia, like at Parliament House in Canberra. But what does the design of our flag mean? On it there’s the Union Jack. It’s the same symbol as the United Kingdom and it’s there to remember the history of the British settlement. Then there’s the Southern Cross  and a six pointer star to repersent the six contries. Then they added another point for all the terotories. The flag is now 113 years old and some people think we should change it. People think that because of whats going on in Scotland. The Union Jack is a part of the flag of England, Saint Patrick’s Saltire from Northern Ireland and the flag of Scotland. If the United Kingdom changes their flag that means we should change our’s as well. Most people think we should put the indiganous flag in. Other’s say we shouldn’t change it at all because it means alot to people and they want to keep it that way.

Overcoming Genes

Do you know what Genes are? If you don’t i’ll tell you. Genes are tiny things in our bodies that have a big job to do. They control most things in our bodies like how we g row or what we look like. It’s happened to alot of people that weren’t ment to have them.

Two months ago a boy named Harrison Wheatley walked across a charity race in  Brisbane. It was a great day for Harrison, someone who couldn’t walk all his life. Harrison was born with a rare medical condition. His parents called it the Wheatley Syndrome because once Harrison had it the scientests told them they have never seen any thing like it before. It affects Harriosons spine with some damaged bones and some completly gone. Harrison has stretching programs to help him. He still needs a wheel chair to get him around. But Harrison doesn’t fell sorry for himself. Harrisons brother Max was also born with the condition but not as severe as Harrisons, but their sister Laura doesn’t have it at all. That confused the Wheatley family for a long time! For the past 9 years scientests have been testing the family to see what the proboblem was. Genes are a part of our  DNA!

Landcare Kids

Landcare kids are about sudents from a school are trying to save the enviroment. This helps the animals to live in a nice and better place. At the back of their school is a river with a big space of grass. They are reabilitating the back of their school. They want to get rid of weeds and rubbish everywhere. They are trying to put in native plants and get rid of bad plants growing for eg:weeds, spiky tres, ect everywhere. They are also cleaning the river. If frogs are in the river that means it is clean water. There are insects that need clean water so they are cleaning the water so they can live there.

ICE BUCKET AWARENESS

Today I’m going to be talking about the Ice Bucket Challenge. Hundreds of thousands of people have gotten involved and millions of dollars have been raised. Do you know what it’s all for? You might have heard that donations are going to ALS, also known as Motor Neurone Disease in Australia. But what is the ALS. You might have seen many videos of people doing the ice bucket challenge. There is a mum and a child doing the ice bucket but they havn’t been nomanated like everyone else. They got involved because the child’s dad has Mota Neurone Disease. The ice bucket challenge is so important because it gives so much awareness. Inside your body their are so many cells called motor neurons. Their job is to send messages from your brain to your body to help you speak, move or breath. When someone gets Mota neurone their neurone starts to die. That means the messages can’t send to the muccels anymore. The disease leaves the body paralysed and eventually unable to swallow or breathe. It’s difficult to grab things because the muccels don’t move as much.

Healthy Vending

These days if your buying a snack from a vending machine it’s something like chocolate or chips. At one school instead of having sweets they have fruit and veggies. It turns out that the students are trying to get rid of the chocolate bars and chips and saying they want something much more healthier. The company that sells it started last year with a vending machine just with bananas, now they are a huge hit so they decided to add berries, apples, pears and all different fruits and veggies. What if I buy a bag of chips they taste like chips but if I brought an orange i don’t know if it’s fresh or not. And I’d have no idea if it was delicious and juicy, or just not very tasty. The  company behind this all said that they only select fruit that is tasty they also said they check the machine every day to make sure that the fruit is fresh. The idea to instal this came from a student at that school. The students love the  fruit in this vending machine is some of the best fruit they’ve ever had.
