Rookie Reporters

This is the last time I will be telling stories from BTN. Maybe next year if we look at BTN I will be telling more stories in 2015!! Now on too the last story. The BTN reporters asked people to make a movie on their lives. Some were students from schools that told us about what they do and their lives. Some kids inspired BTN sop the biggest one they liked and thew best moments were shown today, for the end of 2014. The kids had some happy and sad stories that made the hosts think.

Here are some of the people who got shown:

Eliza told us about dyslexia which she has. Here is what she said: Dyslexia is when we have trouble remembering how sounds and words fit together.

Declan told us about what it means to have Aspergers. Here is what he said: When I learnt about Aspergers I was like ‘I want to be normal’, I thought that was a bad thing I thought that meant my brain was sick and stuff like that, but now I realise that it’s a perfect condition, it’s pretty good.

Nick told us what diabetes is. Here is what he said: Although diabetes is a disease you can still live an exciting lifestyle.

Jack told us what it feels like to have astma. Here is what he said: I have to be careful because if I do too much it usually ends like this. You see I’ve got asthma.

Dewi told us about where she lives on Christmas Island.

They learnt that a boy was named after a war. ANZAC is named after the war. Here is what he said: I’m Anzac. I’m the fifth person in my family with that name. There’s my cousin, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather named Anzac too.

Amy went to South Korea and learntabout the Korea war too.

Chloe and her school mates told us about their trip to Zambia where they met local kids who are passionate about conservation.

Many Australian kids showed all of us  the good things they’re doing like protecting the environment, restoring old graves, volunteer fire fighting, donating to drought-affected farmers and encouraging all of us to save electricity by spending a week outside.

Some kids  love trains and paddle steamers, and those who like to chop wood, practice magic and win taekwondo. Every one learned a lot from kids right around the country and we can’t wait to hear from more children next year!

Fairy Business

Have you ever had your own business? Well if you havn’t start one, you don’t need to be an adult to do it you could be young like 14. A young girl who’s 14 started her own business about fairy’s, she made fairy houses for her business.  She has been making them for 3 years and she is helping the Sippy Creek Animal Refuge so they can keep the animals alive. She decided to make them to raise money for her school and made them with her friends and aised over $4oo worth of fairy houses. Now she’s made 2,000 fairy houses. By now they are at my house in the cupboards and every time she opens the cupboard they fall out.  She’s made a business called ‘Enchanted Fairy Houses’. She’s held workshops on how to make them and hosted parties with them and Iv’e even made my own book on how to make them. It turns out that that’s the only book in the world that shows how to make Fairy Houses. In her school holidays she holds free fairy house workshops.  One day you should make your own business.

Beach Cricket

It’s the time of summer and what’s the thing most people do? It’s sports, and the sports I’m talking about is Beach Cricket. An Aussie foundation is encouraging kids to play it. The kids playing up to 1ooo kilomiters from Kimberly to take part in this sport. The people are part of the Clontarf a foundations to get kids to come to school and learn about cricket. The acadamy started 15 years ago with just 1 acadamy and 25 boys. Now it’s 95 acadamies and more than 3000 students. As part of the program each child gets traing and a bit of coaching.

Skipping School

Have you ever skipped school on your birthday? Should children be forced to go to school on their birthday? Do you think it’s a good enough reason to skip a whole day off school? Are there any other good reasons kids should get the day off school, like being sick what about family holidays or a dentist appointment. At a school in Tasmania they have to go to school on their birthday. Is that fair? They say it’s not a good enough excuse to take a day off. Over in the UK it’s even more striced. Students used to be allowed to have a day off school if it’s their birthday.  In some schools their finning parents for letting their kids stay at home. Being sick is a good reason. But what if someone in your family is sick and you need to stay with them or you have a dentist appointment. Aussie kids skip school more often then other kids in countries.  If you skip school every 3 weeks of school per year, that’s like missing half a year of school by the end of Year 6. But that means your friends will be going to high school and you’ll be left behind.

I think if it’s your birthday you should go to school because you still have after school to finish your birthday. But if your going on a holiday it’s OK.
